Defensive Handgun Classes

Foundations Pistol (Level 1)

Where do I begin in my firearms training?

  • I’m not confident with shooting a gun.
  • How do I properly hold, aim and shoot a gun?
  • How do I draw from a waistband holster?

Do you want to be confident shooting a gun? Call today.

Class Description:

The class covers the safety rules, proper loading, and unloading of the firearm and fundamentals such as sight picture, sight alignment, grip, stance and trigger usage. The instruction then progresses to the safe and efficient use of the holster for carrying the handgun, both concealed and unconcealed. Other items covered during the class include one-handed shooting, using both strong and weak hands while firing multiple shots at different target areas; shooting moving targets and shooting while we are moving. This course is ideal for all age levels and skill sets, and most students have a great deal of fun along the way to learning new skills and enhancing current ones. The course is designed to teach and enhance safe gun handling skills as well as different tactics and exercises designed to develop muscle memory. Our belief is that if we properly prepare our students and instill self-confidence, most situations that might lead to the use of a firearm can be avoided.

The course requires 150 rounds of ammunition and is 4 hours in length.

Public: $200.00
Members: $105.00

Situational Pistol (Level 2)

Now that I have completed Foundations Pistol L1…

  • What do I do if my gun malfunctions?
  • How do I clear it safely?
  • How do I shoot from behind cover at a moving target?
  • Could I reload the firearm under stress?
  • Do I know what would stop bullets in my world I live in?
  • Do I know what kind of person can hurt me or am I scared of everyone?

When a situation arises, do you want to know what to do? Call today.

Class Description:

This course is designed to pick up where Foundations Pistol finished. We begin with working with the holster in order to improve our use and speed. We then progress to reloads of the handgun, emphasizing both speed and tactical reloads. We work on firearm manipulation skills in order to improve the economy of motion and time. Malfunction clearances are our next order of business, as it is imperative that in the case of our firearm running out of ammunition or in the event of a malfunction we can make our firearm functional again under the stress of a self-defense or time-constrained situation. We then progress to shooting from behind cover while we are shooting at moving targets. These exercises are the best to prepare us for possible real-life defensive situations, and therefore we begin to build this skill set and emphasize repetition in future classes.

During this course, we will fire 150 rounds of ammunition and the class is four hours in length.

Prerequisite course: Foundations Pistol

Public: $150.00
Members: $105.00

Adaptive Pistol (Level 3)

Now that I have completed Foundations Pistol L2…

  • How do I secure my spouse, friend or family if a defensive situation takes place?
  • Can I shoot from different positions if I had too?
  • Can I shoot while laying down? Or from my side after being knocked to the ground?

Would you like to learn how to adapt with confidence and skill when situations arise? Call today.

Class Description:

This course, again, picks up where the Situational Pistol finished. We will continue building upon the skill sets learned. We begin with shooting on the move, emphasizing moving off the line of attack as well as continual movement toward cover and/or leaving the danger area. The student will learn how to shoot at a moving target while he/she is on the move, all while seeking cover to hide behind or an exit strategy from the defensive situation. This class requires the ability to speed load as well as malfunction clearance and manipulation skills learned during previous courses. The topic of team shooting is addressed during this course, preparing students to work with a spouse or another person during a defensive situation. Students are then taught ground fighting tactics so that targets can be safely engaged from the ground. Students must be prepared for every scenario, including the possibility of being pushed or knocked to the ground during a defensive situation.

Students will fire 150 rounds of ammunition during this 4-hour class.

Prerequisite course: Situational Pistol

Public: $150.00

Covert Carry

Prerequisite course: Foundations PistolSo you have gone through the CHL course, and you are now aware of the legalities involved in carrying a concealed firearm, the laws justifying the use of deadly force, and you have shot 50 rounds into a B-27 target, achieving a score of 85% or higher.  You have had your fingerprints recorded, your photo taken, paid the fee, and shipped your documents off to Austin.  The day has finally arrived, and they have mailed you your CHL.  You are now legally allowed to carry a concealed handgun on your person.  So you strap on your holster, throw on a jacket and walk out to face the world.  And after about 10 minutes, the internal dialog starts.

  • Why is that person looking at me?  Do they know I have a gun?  Is it showing?
  • I have to use the restroom.  How do I do that?  Where do I put my gun?  Should I take it out of the holster and hang it on the hook on the back of the stall door?  How do I keep everyone from seeing my holster on my belt?
  • I need to go to the Post Office.  I can’t take my gun in there!  Where do I leave it?  How do I take it on and off without everyone seeing it?
  • Why didn’t they teach me any of this stuff in my CHL course?!?!?

In Proactive Defense’s Real Concealed Carry course, get the practical instruction that was left out of your CHL course:

  • The best holster for your gun: why comfort isn’t always the best option
  • How to carry a gun without looking like you are
  • How to use a public restroom without anyone seeing your gun
  • How to secure your gun in case you have to visit a place that does not allow them inside
  • The steps to follow that will keep you out of an armed confrontation
  • How to draw your gun from concealment
  • How to draw and reload your gun one handed

In this course, we are assuming a certain level of proficiency.  It is expected that you will be able to safely draw and fire your pistol, and return to the holster in a safe manner, as well as be able to perform emergency/speed reloads and tactical reloads, as well as be able to clear malfunctions.  Proactive Defense Level 1 & 2, or an equivalent course from a reputable training school are course prerequisites.
