Welcome to Proactive Defense. We train men, women and families to safely use firearms, enabling them to protect themselves and those around them. We firmly believe that a well prepared individual, who is proactive in their lifestyle and in their training, will be able to respond to any situation presented to them in a safe and competent manner without presenting a danger to themselves or others.

We conduct defensive firearms training catering to many demographic groups. We don’t concentrate only on law enforcement or seasoned shooters. In fact, many of our clients are first-time gun owners and Concealed Handgun License (CHL) holders, who want to build confidence, through increased competence, accuracy and safety.

We are family oriented. Husband and wife teams are welcome, as well as whole families who want to shoot together. Target shooting is a great family sport, so put down the video games, get outdoors and have some fun together. Do something you enjoy while learning safety and self-defense skills that could save your life.

Chris, here’s my critique of the women’s home defense class last Saturday. I didn’t know what to expect, but was very pleased with the way you planned out the class. It was a lot of information in a short period, but I really enjoyed everything. And having Leslie there to show us the hand-to-hand suggestions was a bonus. I think this is an invaluable class for those of us who have decided to take charge of our own “environment”. Thank you so much.

Please keep me on your mailing list and let me know of any upcoming classes. Keep up the good work!

I was very impressed with the new self-defense series for women that Chris has developed! At some point, any of us may need to react quickly, make good choices, and be willing (and able) to defend ourselves and perhaps others! Chris has a wealth of information and is an excellent instructor. He spends time on defensive shooting, various other defense skills, and supplies multiple handouts. This class is invaluable to anyone that has decided to 'be prepared' and fight back!

Thanks so much,

As a new shooter, I knew I needed instruction. Taking the Level I class at Quail Creek Range was a great experience. Chris’ patience and level of knowledge really helped me to become familiar with the operations and use of my pistol. I followed up with the Level II and III classes. Oh, man!! The things Chris showed us were incredible. Shooting on the move, close range shooting, shooting with a partner, failure drills, low light shooting, drawing from a holster and even carrying the weapon in a holster loaded and on safe was very informative and confidence building. Everything was relevant and has allowed me to become extremely comfortable with my weapon. Anyone owning a firearm should have instruction, especially if applying for a CHL. Chris Rainey at Quail Creek exceeded my expectations.

In May of this year I had an encounter with someone that left me uncomfortable. Although not brought up around guns nor in the slightest bit interested in them I decided on the spot I wanted to get a concealed handgun license (CHL). Being the type of person who doesn't to anything half way, I called Quail Creek Range and arranged a pre qualify for the CHL class in they had scheduled for June.

Once I arrived Hank ( an instructor and co-owner of the range) took my out to the range and started to go over the basics of gun safety with me. Needless to say, I was more then scared to death of even an unloaded gun and at the time had no real intentions of actually carrying a gun with me, I just wanted the CHL. Hank spent over an hour patiently working with me. That day I ended up shooting one of my best to date, 248 out of 250! Imagine that from an east coast girl who had never so much as touched a gun! Before I left, Hank introduced me to Chris, one of the top instructors at Quail Creek. Chris and I talked briefly about coming back to Quail Creek for additional lessons, even though they weren't required for the CHL.

The more I thought of it I realized that if I wanted to get a "Driver's License" I would take a Driver Ed course and get a car, right? Otherwise, what's the point? Just pull out my keys and say "I can drive!"? No. On the other hand if you plan to drive, learn the laws and techniques of driving, practice often and have a car at your disposal. "Be safe and proficient" that is the only way it will benefit you. So I decided I would take some time and invest it in me.

Since May I have had about 30 hours of training, both in small groups ( hand gun basic, intermediate and advanced) and private one on one lessons. The more classes I take ( in addition to practicing on my own) the more I realize that I need to learn more. I feel a great responsibility for the knowledge I have with my hand gun. Right now, I have a GED, my goal is to have a masters or PhD.

I do feel that if I were ever in the same situation or maybe worse, that I could think and act in such a way to make sure that I am safe and those around me are as well. Both Hank and Chris have a teacher's heart, they make learning fun, excited and a real growth experience. To them, its more then just: load, aim, fire. They make you analyze the situation, understand what your options are and how to act oppose to just react!

I have been told by many of my friends that I have gained self confidence and seem more alert after working with Quail Creek. I am so glad I have had the opportunity to get training with Hank and Chris and tell everyone I meet, "you NEED to do this".

Kind Regards, Heidi
